YOUNG BOY SERIOUSLY INJURED AFTER REVETMENT FALL IN SANDOWN

A child has been hospitalised after falling several feet from the revetment wall between Sandown and Shanklin this afternoon (Sunday). The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service responded to reports that a young boy had been injured after a fall from height at just gone 15:00. An ambulance, rapid response paramedic and an operational commander were all mobilised to the scene at the Sandown end of the coastal promenade, near to Fin’s Beach Cafe. The assistance of HM Coastguard was later requested with 2 Coastguard Rescue Teams tasked to the incident. Due to the severity of the situation, the boy was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital under blue lights and sirens in a convoy of vehicles. He remains in hospital with serious injuries this evening.
