A 38-year-old man from Wootton has been charged with drink driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance after a crash on the main road to East Cowes yesterday evening (Friday).
As previously reported by Island Echo, Police and ambulance crews were rushed to Whippingham Road near the junction with Folly Lane at around 17:30 yesterday evening.
The collision involved 3 vehicles including a Red Jaguar and Green VW Polo.
1 of the drivers involved in the crash fled the scene before being apprehended by Police who arrested him shortly after.
A child was taken into police care as a result.
It has now been revealed that 38-year-old Carl Isham, of St Edmunds Walk in Wootton, has been charged with driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level is above the limit and using a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance.
He is due to appear before Magistrates on Friday 28th April.

So are you saying that he was drunk with a child in the car that he then left to avoid being caught. Should he then not be charged with neglect as well. Or am I miss reading the news article.

And the magistrate will do much tutting then let him off with a puny fine, longer ban which he ignores anyway, so that he can carry on his criminal ways. Throw him in a jail with no TV or kettle, feed him bread and water once a day and let him rot.

And how long has he been driving without a license and insurance? Weeks, months or years?

Until the sentencing fits the crime and serves as a proper deterrent, people like him will be back on the street doing exactly the same thing tomorrow.

I have more respect for the piece of canine fecal matter that is on the pavement than for this tosser. What excuse can he give for driving with no licence, under the influence and no insurance/tax and possibly with a child. Requires immediate euthanasing if you ask me.

Not getting this, if the child was in his car ? then he should be charged with child endangerment, neglect and abandonment when he ran off.Expect child to now be in Care and no contact till after Court, infact no contact, let him see what it would be like if he had killed the child and never see her growing up etc.
The child is not in care, the child is safe and back with her mother, said child will not be having any contact with him again

He needs his licence withdrawn until it does driving test and proof of insurance before he buys a car. I am surprised the child they removed has not been updated in this report as a “normal” human being is more interested in the child than a mindless driver.
We needs a rethink on car trading. Buyers should have to produce a driving licence to the seller & the licence number should be entered on the V5C notification to DVLA that ownership has changed (if the registered keeper is not the owner, then both of their details should be registered too on the form, including the numbers of both driving licences). Traders would have exemption but should be registered and subject to regular inspection.
Also we need identity checks for the issue of duplicate V5C forms which are lost.stolen or destroyed. Maybe we need fingerprint id on these very important documents, plus driving licences and passports too. The forgery of these “trusted” documents enables much serious crime.
