A woman face down in the water has been rescued by volunteer lifeboat crew in Bembridge this morning (Boxing Day).
At around 09:30, emergency services were alerted to a concern for welfare at Whitecliff Bay, prompting Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor to be tasked to the scene alongside Bembridge RNLI and Coastguard Rescue 175.
A short search of the area located a woman in the water, who was hauled aboard the Inshore Lifeboat and rushed to Lane End.
It’s at Lane End where the Coastguard Helicopter landed so that the onboard paramedic could provide additional medical assistance, ahead of the arrival of an ambulance crew and operational commander.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are now checking over the casualty, who is expected to be conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
All other emergency teams have been stood down from the incident.
UPDATE @ 12:00 – It has been confirmed that a Bembridge RNLI crew member entered the water to keep the casualty afloat. The casualty was cold, but breathing.
