4 Wight Tri members ditched the swim and bike sections of triathlon to take on the Great South Run on Sunday (17th October).

25 year old, Natalie Lawrence had an excellent race and finished 12th in the Elite females race, in a PB time for 10miles in 1::00:44, just 1 min off a top ten position. This was Natalie’s first opportunity to run as an elite athlete after recently posting some amazing times over the 5km to half marathon distances.

Natalie has been excelling in both her triathlons and running over the last 2 years, but running is her strength, and she has concentrated on this mainly over the last 6 months.

Only 2 weeks ago, she came 2nd female overall at the Bournemouth half marathon and has been winning the local IW Ryde Harriers 10 km and 10mile road races over the summer.

She had also qualified for the GB Age Group team for the European Standard Distance Triathlon Championships in Valencia in September but chose to opt-out due to Covid-19 restrictions and work commitments. However, she has already qualified for the 2022 European Standard Distance Championships, having finished 5th in the 25-29 AG at Eastbourne Triathlon in June.

Cyclists Dave Dent and Michelle Lock took on the GSR in memory of a close friend, who Michelle used to run with. Dave finished in 1:13:21, 32nd in 50+ AG, with Michelle completing the 10 miles in 1:34:31, 86th 50+ AG.

Michelle was elated to have finished, and expressed her deep emotions in the following words:

“A truly beautiful & emotional day. Running the GSR in memory of Marie Corby who was with me every step of the way today just as she was back in 2011.”

New member and novice runner, Blue Pike took on her first ever 10-mile road race and completed it in a very creditable 1:44:17.
