An Isle of Wight football club has launched its pre-season training sessions and is looking for new players to take part.
Wight Eagles FC is looking for new players for its women’s training sessions which are held at Queensgate Primary in East Cowes each Wednesday evening. The club is hoping to welcome players old and new to the sessions and has also announced its new partnership with fitness coach Emily Faithfull.
The sessions aim to coach women into the sport and help those already playing develop their skills and gain new opportunities.
Dan Verstraeten, Coach and Head of Youth Development at the club, said:
“We are still looking for players to come and join this growing club we have already given Lottie 15, Lilly 15, and Jessie 15, the chance to join in with the 1st team training sessions, then when we get the chance we will offer the girls a trial at Reading FC ladies.
“We also have Emily Faithfull as our Fitness Trainer from Faithfull Fitness and Recovery doing pre-season so the future looks bright with the Academy set up.”
Steve Spriggs, 1st Team Manager, and Head Coach added:
“We started the club in 2020 with the goals to open doors and give opportunities to women and girls that weren’t available before. Our aim is simply to be the best we can, not just on the field but off it as well.

I have been around the top of the game and I now wish to drive this club as far as it can go. I want are women and girls to be recognised at the highest level achievable.”
New coach, Jason Ince, concluded:
“I’m really pleased to come in and join this incredible setup. The women’s game is up and coming and to be able to pass my experience on is really enjoyable.
“The set up with the Academy is an amazing opportunity for girls to get into football and enjoy the beautiful game. I have daughters myself and have always been involved in football so it’s great to see the progress.”
