There will be further disruption on Wightlink’s Yarmouth-Lymington car ferry service over the coming days due to continuing staffing issues.
Wightlink says that due to the absence of an essential crew member, 4 sailings have been cancelled on both Saturday and Sunday.
It has been confirmed that the 16:00 and 18:00 from Lymington have been pulled, as well as the 17:00 and 19:00 from Yarmouth.
This weekend’s cancellations come following days of disruption, which has seen a number of morning sailings scrapped this week.
A spokesperson for Wightlink has said:
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this action will cause but we been unable to source short notice cover for the absent members of staff and so have taken this action as a last resort.
“All booked customers have been moved to alternate sailings.
“We apologise for any changes to your travel plans”.

pitiful bs excuse yet again from our woefully useless unreliable ferry services.as if a essential member only does odd crossings like those! How convenient . SOMEONE is doing all rest of the crossings but lets save money and just cancel a few.yep…your secrets out I’m afraid
Just a cost cutting sham thats all is.islanders just arent allowed too have a life and make travel plans.stuck here at there whim it seems
Absolutely awful service by Wightlink. Hopefully the company will go bankrupt soon with the financial outlook not looking great. Hopefully then the island can get together and take it over.
Well that would no doubt involve the IWC. Good luck with that. Floating Bridge on every crossing? Jeez. Be easier to grow wings.
Please do not suggest IWC are involved .. complete shambles .. worse the Wightlink… let it collapse on itself, then it will sell at a competitive .. valuation .. but it is heavily weighted with debt .. so sack the current management and start again .. maybe Red Funnel or Elon Musk can give it a go
Wouldn’t have to be IWC, could be done through a partnership for the people. A ltd company set up to own the shares on behalf of IOW residents. It could be run as a low profit business, i.e use x amount for future investment, maintenance and replacement and pay the rest out as quarterly returns, the gains would be small but at least it would be run in the interest of us. It would also bring in competition against red funnel and I’d suspect they would need to readjust the prices they charge too. But it’s only a theory and a hopeful dream.
Don’t they hjave staff on the Fishbourne route that could stand in?
Red funnel are rubbing their hands together, probably got this essential crew member locked away somewhere.
Funny how the sailings always seem to get cancelled/reduced during the winter months when there isn’t a huge profit to be made by those Solent Pirates.
Wouldn’t happen in the middle of August
Stick your cheap copy and paste apologies.
Lost it’s originality Many Moons ago.
Oh well, maybe don’t travel then? Geez, society simply have no idea how to adapt. Lol
