Royal Navy Bomb Disposal experts have successfully detonated a historic piece of ordnance located deep within Brighstone Forest.
A member of the public located the suspected explosive at 10:14 this morning (Wednesday) and alerted Police.
Officers were deployed to the scene near to Strawberry Lane and, with the help of the dog walker, eventually located the item after a 45 minute walk from the road.
Bomb Disposal experts from Portsmouth were mobilised to the scene and by 15:00 carried out a controlled explosive on the device, which is understood to be a WWII shell.
