Ventnor 3rd XI won the 2nd/3rd XI Cup at Newclose County Ground by beating Northwood 2nds by 7 wickets on Saturday (30th July).
Winning the toss and batting 1st, Northwood reached 203 for the loss of 5 wickets in their 35 overs with J. Whitewood top scoring with 88 not out and opener M. Richards marking 78 before being run out.
In reply, Ventnor 3rds reached their target with 5 overs to spare for the loss of just 3 wickets. Opener T. Stafford top scored with 89 runs, with his fellow opener J. Toulson making 53 in an opening partnership of 155.

In Southern Premier Division 1, Ventnor dropped to 6th place after losing to Basingstoke & North Hants by 5 wickets.
Having won the toss and electing to bat, Ventnor reached the modest total of 185 all out in the 49th over. Martin Blackman top scored for Ventnor with a knock of 60 off 100 balls.
Basingstoke & North Hants overcame the Ventnor total with 5 wickets and 5 overs to spare. Namish Verma had the best bowling figures for Ventnor, taking 2/40 off his 10 overs.

In Hampshire Division 4 (South), 3rd-placed Ventnor 2nds emphatically beat bottom club Purbrook 2nds by 10 wickets at Steephill.
Having won the toss and electing to bat, 10-man Purbrook could only reach a total of 60 all out in 20 overs. Chris Russell was the best of the Ventnor bowlers with figures of 3/15; Dominic Brihmani (3/21) also picked up 3 wickets.
The Ventnor opening pair of Sam Guerin and Mark Fletcher surpassed the Purbrook total in just 3.4 overs or 22 balls. Guerin top scored with 50 not out.

In Hampshire Division 1, Ryde have continued their rise up the table by beating Hythe & Dibden by 4 wickets.
Hythe & Dibden made 242 for the loss of 7 wickets in their 50 overs, with Will Mew the pick of the Ryde bowlers with figures of 3/23.
In reply, Ryde reached 246 with 7 overs to spare. Oscar Van de Casteele top scored for Ryde with 61 before being clean bowled by McKey. Will Mew also made a useful contribution to the Ryde innings with 48 not out.

In Division 4 (South), Ryde 2nds have continued their winning run by beating Fawley 2nds by 33 runs.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Ryde reached a total of 205 runs in their 45 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Captain Ashley Goldsmith top scored for the Island side with a knock of 64.
In reply, Fawley could only manage 172 before being bowled out with 6 overs to spare. Ben Gregory was the bowler with best figures for Ryde with 3/29, followed by Liam Ringer with 3/46.

In Division 3 (South), Shanklin & Godshill suffered a narrow defeat to Gosport Borough 2nds at Westhill.
Shanklin captain Lambourne won the toss and elected to field. Gosport scored at a steady pace from the start of their innings, which was built around Gravell’s unbeaten century from 99 balls, including 18 4s and 1 6, with the next highest scorer being extras on 44. The 22 wides, 3 no balls, 10 byes, and 9 leg byes were to prove the main difference at the end of the game between the 2 teams.
The Shanklin reply was built around a fine partnership for the 3rd wicket of 148 between opener M Ringer and Seb Read. Ringer scored 85 from 113 balls including 10 4s and 2 6s, with Seb Read scoring 82 from 89 balls including 10 4s and 1 6. Once these 2 were dismissed, the mounting run rate caused extra risks to be taken, and Shanklin were dismissed in the final over, falling to defeat by 18 runs and left to wonder what might have been if they had not conceded so many extras whilst bowling.
