Police patrolling the streets of the Isle of Wight have tonight (Friday) seized a vehicle which has been without an MOT or tax for over 3 years.
The blue Kia Sportage was pulled over by officers on Briddlesford Road, near Wootton, earlier on tonight. It’s thought to have been a targeted stop.
Roadside checks revealed that the 4×4 style vehicle has been without a valid MOT certificate since 7th April 2016 and hasn’t been taxed since 8th March 2016.
It was also discovered during the checks that there is no valid insurance held on the vehicle and the driver doesn’t hold a licence.
It’s safe to say the Sportage has now been taken off the road.

Pleased they have removed, but have to ask why its taken 3 years.
Because Chris the police have had their numbers cut so much they struggle to answer 999 calls let alone seize untaxed vehcles – what a stupid comment you made
Great job hopefully will cost them slot of money in fines but probably not enough
The low life driver should be off the streets, not the car. Cut his dole money or take a huge fine from his wages for if this rubbish injured someone, they could not claim as he had no insurance.
Did not take too long for the police too get the vehicle off the road (3years) good work……..
Police should be apologising to the public. Outrageous! No Tax, No MOT, No Insurance and no Licence for 3 years! They’ve probably already got another car driving it about knowing it’ll be another three years before they get caught again, buy then they will have served any driving ban they will have got this time around.
Now bang the owner up why should they not have to pay tax/ mot/ insurance
Why don’t you just give the police a break. They do a dangerous job to the best of their ability to keep us safe. There ha e been times when I to have thought ”bloody police” when I’ve been stopped for speeding but who fault was that !! keep up the good work to our police force
Kim, Here’s a link, https://www.police.uk look up Newport (Hampshire) police reports for any give month show most streets in the town have had criminal activity most of which include sexual assault…..so who is keeping who safe?
This vehicle has probably been off the road for 3 years, the chances of it not being stopped in that time are very low, possibly just been purchased and moved by the new owner. With ANPR many cars are stopped and taken off the road on the island, a high percentage aren’t reported on this or other news feeds.
Great job keep up.food work
We pay so should these law breakers
Crush it
By the way the comments that it’s taken 3 years to take off road, might be the car was off road untill recently then not in defence of this scote may have been on road for matter of days?
Also the police don’t hunt for cars 24/7
Also the police don’t hunt for cars 24/7
Those that are equipped with ANPR will hunt down anything that ‘beeps’….
What a Sad little lot you island people are!
Part of the ‘problem’ with untaxed vehicles escaping being caught is the TOTAL MESS that the system is in!
Formerly if you did not Tax or SIRN your vehicle it was an automatic fine from DVLA.
Now it seems that because they have been privatised and so much has been devolved that it always seems to be ‘someone else’s responsibility’.
The Police only (can only?) act on vehicles caught on the highway, so all of those less than honest people who don’t care about Tax, Insurance or MOT get away with it because DVLA do not take enforcement action!
I recall it was trumpeted a LONG time ago, that untaxed vehicles would be taken away and crushed.
Whatever happened to that policy?
Beggars belief that as soon as this vehicle has been spotted it is immediately taken off the road but if you report one to the DVLA and Island Roads that has no tax, no MOT and no insurance and has been parked on the public highway for nearly 9 months to a year nothing gets done and it is still there!
