Vandalism has forced the closure of the revetment toilets between Sandown and Shanklin.
Contractors arrived in Lake yesterday evening (Thursday) to find that the public convenience had been trashed.
Furthermore, for reasons currently unknown, the electrics have stopped working. This means that a pump used to remove waste from the revetment to the top of the cliff is not working, thus rendering the toilets unusable.
Lake Parish Council is aware of the issue and aims to re-open the toilets at the earliest opportunity.
Adrian Whittaker, Deputy Chairman of Lake Parish Council, has said:
“This is frustrating after all the time and effort the council and contractors have spent on getting these toilets back into a serviceable condition.
“This is the first incident on the revetment toilets since they have been reopened. I’m hoping this is an isolated incident and they will be open as soon as possible.
“I would like to apologise to the users of these facilities that they are currently closed and I’m certain that our council officers will work to get the issue resolved in a timely manner”.

CCTV. There must be evidence of who was in the area. You know who you’re looking for. I can picture the baseball caps and hoodies so get on with it, check doorbell camera footage from the clifftop, any images from the seafront and get these local boys charged. I bet the police have some ideas who would do this.
Make them pay for the damage.
