A van parked in front of Bembridge Coastguard Station meant that its Coastguard Rescue Team had a delayed response to a 999 call yesterday afternoon (Monday).
On what has been a very hot last few days, Coastguard crews across the Island have been busy attending incidents as quickly as possible, something that wasn’t possible yesterday for Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team .
The crew couldn’t get their vehicle out – after it was blocked by a white van – when the call 1st came in.
A spokesperson said:
“While we encourage the public to enjoy our community and the coast we would also remind people not to block our clearly signed access.
“Yesterday we were delayed attending a 999 call because this vehicle owner was enjoying lunch at a nearby pub.”
The area outside the station is clearly signed with no parking and keep clear signs, as well as a notice informing people the building is used by the coastguard.

All emergency vehicles should be allowed to push any vehicle blocking there routes out of the way without any come back on them
Agreed,if I parked (I don’t) inconsiderate I wouldn’t complain if thei moved it – we are talking about life and death not you’re Amazon parcel delivery.
Doesn’t look like a delivery van.
Well they can. So the story here is “why didn’t they?”
More arrogant idiot van drivers will be along soon….
You seem to suffer from a severely limited vocabulary don’t you
Well on his way to becoming a van driver then? Just need a copy of The Sun, loads of empty fast food containers and a disregard for other road users.
Leets stop pussy footing about – show the number plate so we can all see who the moron is!
I travelled through Bembridge at the weekend, and although there were traffic lights and “No Parking ” cones were spaced either side of the lights, the locals completely ignored the cones, causing chaos as people couldn’t get passed.
Nothing, but nothing, is allowed to trump the personal convenience of the driver.
Break the glass, move the van. Sod the owner.
A few spare policemen wouldn’t go amiss. Bozo the Defenestrated forgetting to mention that, despite his much-vaunted police recruitment (20,000 is it, Mr Clown?), we’re still some 30,000 lighter than when the Tories came to power.
Do they not have a fork lift or a set of vehicle skates?
What a complete pr**k!
I’m often blocked in where I live because of inconsiderate people. The times I’ve wanted to snow plough through them.
But the coastguard station, my God, the vehicle reg should be shown and shamed.
The Number of the van is available so you got the owner he or she should get a ticket at very least , providing of course there are appropriate markings not to allow parking , rather just hoping no one parks there

Do we know what happened when the van driver came back? … a right royal rollicking I hope! Our Coastguards deserve respect.
If the CG’s emergency response was delayed by this selfish scumbag, it may well put have put someone’s life at risk. It could even have caused an actual death. Please NAME, SHAME and incarcerate the vile low-life.
“But I’m only stopping for three minutes” …
EVERYWHERE! EVERY DAY!
Across pavements, around junctions, across driveways, over double-yellows, on blind corners, in disabled-only parking spaces, in entrances …
Come on, people – it’s not just you on your planet, and there are hundreds of other people also thinking (if that’s not a stretch) “But I’m only stopping for three minutes” …
Time to switch on the brain, see if it still works at all.
People don’t give a s—-. Where they park and get away with it why do we pay for no action on this island police and road maintenance non existent at disgrace to us all
Why did they not just move it back,4men can easily bounce it back a bit and not damage it,or just drag it with another car. Fire brigade will move car’s out of their way. Imagine people died and excuse was – couldn’t move it in case we damaged it. If you park badly or on private property it’s tough, not heard of anyone taken to Court.
You definitely can’t park there mate
I would of towed it away myself ignorant van driver had no shame
