VAN FIRE TACKLED BY FRESHWATER FIREFIGHTERS NEAR COLWELL

A van fire has been extinguished by retained firefighters in the West Wight this afternoon (Wednesday).

1 appliance from Freshwater was mobilised to Colwell Road following reports of a fire within the cab of a Ford Transit.

Upon arrival, the fire was almost out but smoke was still issuing.

Firefighters used a hose reel jet to damp down the area and forced open the rear of the vehicle using hydraulic spreaders to clear a build-up of smoke.

The van’s battery was also removed in the interests of safety.
