The future of St Peters’ Church in Havenstreet is in doubt, with parishioners warned to ‘use it, love it or lose it’.
It has been a place of worship, baptism, marriage and burial since it was built in 1852 but there is now a real risk that the church could close.
Portsmouth Diocese says it is spending the next year reviewing the use and need for St Peters. Although it wants to keep the church open for services and other uses, more people need to get involved and more money is needed to ensure the doors remain open.
Locals are being invited to a public meeting to discuss ideas and the options for the future of the church on Saturday 19th October at 16:00.
It’s said that in order to save the church people need to attend the meeting, show support and help with ideas. More volunteers are also required and monthly or yearly ‘tax efficient’ donations are encouraged.
