A total of 11 junior players from the Isle of Wight Underwater Hockey Club travelled to Worcester over the weekend to compete at the Junior UWH English Regional Championships. The Island-based cohort joined fellow players from Southampton, Bournemouth, West Wickham, St Albans and Guildford to form a team representing the South East in a total of 3 age categories (Under 11, 14, and 16). The competition was fierce against regional teams drawn from across England providing very tough games, and for 5 players, and a coach this was their Octopush – another name for Underwater Hockey – debut. The island provided the top goal scorer in all categories for Team South East. A spokesperson from the Isle of Wight Underwater Hockey Club has said:
“Though Team South East didn’t achieve the results they’d hoped for it was a fantastic day with a great amount of experience gained by our players.”
