Firefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have extinguished a fire in the open at Afton tonight (Tuesday).
A crew from Freshwater Fire Station were mobilised to reports of a bonfire being lit, and subsequently left unattended, at Afton Marsh.
Thankfully, the fire service were made aware of the fire before it could potentially spread to the surrounding countryside.
Retained firefighters from Freshwater are urging people to read the advice on the Isle of Wight Council website regarding fire safety in the open.
