The Needles has been ranked among Britain’s most beautiful walks, according to new research analysing Tripadvisor reviews.
Outdoor retailer Millets examined how many times some of the UK’s favourite walking spots were described as “beautiful”, “pretty” and “picturesque” in online reviews to determine the nation’s most scenic routes.
The Needles placed 10th overall, with a combined total of 300 reviews using those terms. Of those, 255 described the walk as “beautiful”, 33 as “pretty” and 12 as “picturesque”.
The iconic chalk stacks off the western tip of the Isle of Wight are one of the most recognisable landmarks in the country, drawing visitors year-round to take in the coastal views and dramatic scenery. Walkers can enjoy routes along the clifftops above Alum Bay, with sweeping views across the Solent and out towards the English Channel.
Topping the list was Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, which recorded 1,394 reviews praising its beauty. Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim ranked 2nd with 974, while Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol took 3rd place with 917.
Natalie Wolfenden, author and outdoor enthusiast at Millets, has said:
“With spring on the way, it’s the ideal time to tackle some of the UK’s most rewarding walking routes. The longer evenings give you more opportunity to soak up the scenery and embrace the season.
“Whether you’re heading to Edinburgh or Cornwall, a little preparation before you head out can make it even more enjoyable. Sturdy walking boots are essential, and I would always recommend dressing in warm, breathable baselayers that can be adjusted as the weather changes. A light jacket, hat, and gloves can still come in handy on cooler days.
“Planning your route ahead of time also helps you make the most of the lighter evenings, while keeping some flexibility means you can adapt if spring showers do appear. With the right preparation, there’s no better way to welcome in the new season.”
The inclusion of The Needles highlights the Isle of Wight’s continued reputation as one of the UK’s top destinations for coastal walking, particularly as the spring and summer seasons approach.

With all the road works soon people will have to walk
to get there.
Lol
We are reminded every day how lucky we are to live amidst such a landscape, particularly here in West Wight. As ever it is only people who spoil life here, and the more the worse. We are just back from Cornwall, which is no more stunning than here, but is ten times the size of the island with only four times the people. Do the maths …and it can only get worse.
Not if they stop building more homes on the island.
West Wight is unspoilt and feels like being on the
island, sadly many other parts of the island feel
no different to being on the mainland.
Let’s hope West Wight stays unspoilt
