After more than 30 years of trading, the doors to Tri-First in Newport have closed – and it’s unclear if they will ever re-open.
The nick-nack discount store on Pyle Street – behind what is now Mountain Warehouse – has been a staple of Newport’s town centre since the early 1990s.
However, it has been confirmed by the store’s manager that the business went into liquidation last Wednesday (20th September).
A sign on the door of cm3 Tri-First reads: ‘sorry closed until further notice’. There is no indication when, or if, the shop will re-open.
It comes in the same week that Day Lewis Pharmacy – located just a few doors down the road – announced that it is closing its Pyle Street shop, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Very sad news, it’s been a great shop over the years, excellent value and
excellent selection of items.

I shall miss that shop and the wonderful staff there. I do hope it can re-open at some time, or if not, that the staff find alternative employment.

Sadly, it’s something that happens to towns with parking charges.
Questions need to be asked Island wide,why are a lot of small shops closing ?????
That’s a real shame a nice little shop gone and in its place yet another empty shop to add to the already large number in Newport

Sad when small /or any business closes,good luck to all the staff .
But hey the council want to spend a fortune making Newports pavements wider and take away parking spaces, and regenerate the town centre…..

Perhaps if there was free parking all times people may go shopping ?????
More footfall could possibly help small businesses and keep people’s job’s ???!!!!!…

“Tri First” what a rip off of another island firms slogan. If this shop sold decent stuff it might have stayed open.
I would for Hurst and Try Hurst First have been going for many decades and will continue to trade for many decades to come
