Firefighters are damping down the remnants of a fire within woodland at Salters Road in Ryde this morning (Wednesday).
Trees have been charred by the fire at the entrance to Salters Playing Field – an area that has been subject to a number of suspicious fires in the past.
Although Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have only just been called to the scene it’s thought that the fire started at some point overnight and burnt itself out – thankfully without spreading further afield.
1 appliance from Ryde is on scene and using a hose reel jet to damp down the area measuring around 5m x 5m.
If you see a fire in the countryside, contact the fire service immediately on 999. Do not attempt to tackle fires that cannot be put out with a bucket of water.
Remember, do not discard cigarettes or other smoking materials in the countryside. It is also important to clear away bottles, glasses and any broken glass to avoid them magnifying the sun and starting a fire.
Always take extra care if using a barbecue and only light fires or BBQs in designated areas. Never leave a campfire or BBQ unattended and extinguish them properly after you have finished using them.
More island dregs / lowlife wanting to destroy our natural beauty, low moral standards and uneducated scum thrive on destruction…
Bet the island Council are happy they dont like trees all they want to do is cut them all down
Little shits setting deliberate fires. These kids are out of control. Something must be done about them. If there not smashing things up they’re setting fires.
At no point does the article mention kids did this. Adults do this too you know.
