Motorists face travel disruption in Sandown this month as 2 busy roads are set to be upgraded from today (Monday) as part of Island Roads’ programme of out-of-season highway improvement work. Sections of Lake Hill and The Broadway in Sandown are both due to be upgraded this month. Lake Hill is due to be improved between Brownlow Road and The Heights from today (11th March), with work programmed to last 5 working days. Then – in work scheduled to begin in the week beginning on 25th March and lasting 4 days – sections of Broadway will be upgraded. Once again, the road will be closed as a through route between Beachfield Road and Avenue Road. At each location, excavations are required to address the underlying ground conditions that have caused the highway to deteriorate in some areas. In some cases, these excavations may be deep. Though this means the sites will be closed as through roads for the duration of the work period, the need for future maintenance should be reduced. Alternative routes via Perowne Way, The Fairway and Avenue Road will be signposted during the closure and traffic management arrangements will be monitored during the works to help minimise disruption for motorists. In both schemes, access will be retained for residents as long as it is safe to do so. Pedestrian access will be unaffected during the works. An Island Roads spokesperson has said:
“We are continuing to undertake extensive work at this time of year, enabling us to maintain the network whilst minimising disruption to the strategic network during the summer months. “We have scheduled these schemes, on what is a busy main route, to be completed ahead of the Easter holiday.

Why don’t they fix the broken sections riddled with pot holes! There’s plenty of them
I hadn’t even noticed any road problems in Sandown whilst riding a motorcycle, they should focus on Great preston road. It seems like they just want an excuse to cause more travel chaos.
Perowne way needs to have all the speed humps removed, double yellows it’s entire length, as all have private drives, and a roundabout built around the war monument where it meets lake hill.
Then use it to share the traffic flow as the Broadway etc is a nightmare in Summer, and by allowing cars to use Perowne way route as well as the Broadway would share the load and make the roads safer for all users.
And how about all the people that live in perone way, this is a housing estate not designed for heavy traffic as can be seen right now.
The idiots on the island couldn’t wipe their own
Ar*es, yet alone fill an hole.
Improvements in Sandown
Sandown needs to be bulldozed to the ground and re-built
The High Street and Esplanade is a sh*thole
Well said.
The problem lies with ignorant people like you. Have a pathetic and childish opinion but with no practical assistance or ideas. Tw4t.
Island roads if your reading this, when are you going to rebuild Clarendon road shanklin to bus station. And Atherley road. They are dangerous to cyclists and car drivers, its pathetic the way these roads have become.
Island Roads cannot read.
Chaos here today on Perone way. To be fair not much you can do about it. However tow the dumped Peugeot by the shop that holds the traffic up.
Pity the teams can’t work all night like they do on motorways given its such a busy route.
And the large Camper Van that is parked illegally along the Road.
45 minutes from sandown to shanklin. How lovely.
As per usual some Bright spark.. @ I. Roads, has forgotten to tell anyone to change the Traffic light phasing at the Perowne way/ Morton common junction..Only Five to six cars get through on a Green light at this rate. Huge tail backs..Great planning guys ( Again).!
Island Toads could not plan a p*ss up in a Brewery
Useless B’stards
Need to sort huge potholes in Rose Way whilst they are at it
They don’t know what a pothole is,
Pot, yes!
I drove along Perowne Way this afternoon
There are vehicles parked on NO waiting cones blocking the
traffic flowing.
I know the island is being run by a bunch of useless B’stards
but get the vehicles moved F.F.S.
I am fed up seeing The Councils G’estapo Enforcement Officers driving
around booking motorists who go over their time
Why don’t the useless B’stards slap tickets on vehicles along
Perowne Way??
Did the Law not drive along Perowne Way today and see all the carnage
being caused.
TOW THE B’STARD VEHICLES AWAY
Seems sandowns roads are living up to the rest of the town! Poop hole that’s thanks to the town council has gone to the dogs. Thankfully I only drive through the place and don’t look at it anymore!
So nothing from I’ve sealed? This shows how you allow any comments. As a reputable newsreel, you need to monitor this and act appropriately
Why hasn’t Vectis put noti
Why hasn’t Vectis put notices on the bus stops that are affected,i have told people waiting for a bus that the buses were not going up beachfield road so they had to to go to the bus stop further back.if I hadn’t told them they could have stayed there a lot longer.
Useless council, useless roads, useless useless useless… And.. it doesn’t stop at roads, schools or the stupidity in general.
What a joke how many roads they going close. They say save the environment but everyone driving around like headless chickens doesn’t help. Island roads are so bad do them in evening stop holding everyone up all the time. They should be accountable for these closures and how hard it is to get around.
Wasting all are petrol and the roads are worst in country,
