A Lake man who crashed his Transit van into a brick wall before fleeing the scene has been found guilty of 2 driving offences.
Jonathan Easlea, 53, of The Fairway in Lake, pleaded guilty to failing to report an accident and driving without due care and attention when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier today (Friday).
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services were alerted to reports that a vehicle – a Transit tipper van – had left the road and collided with a Ford Fiesta and a brick wall at around 21:30 on 31st March.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary attended the scene but the driver – Easlea – was no longer present and made no attempts to exchange details with any of the parties involved.
A few days later, on 5th April, Easlea was contacted by Police and called in for an interview. It was here that he admitted to being the driver of the vehicle.
Easlea only made an attempt to contact the home and vehicle owners after he was contacted by officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary.
Defending himself, Easlea – who works as a general builder – said that the accident was caused by stress and tiredness after his mother narrowly avoided a health scare and that in the days after the accident, he was beside himself and didn’t exactly know what had happened.
The case was adjourned until 11th July. A pre-sentence report is to be compiled by that time. Easlea has been granted unconditional bail.

To do a runner from the scene of the crime is unforgivable.
Innocent until proven guilty but let’s face it, who on earth would crash and cause that much damage to then leave the scene knowing your responsible and then say stress and tiredness?? More like drink or drugs and decided to to not ring the police as he would of been tested….now he can get out of it,if he hit another car with a single occupant driving is he going to walk away and also say tiredness and stress?
If you new the brothers youd know !
Absolutely over the alcohol limit completely obvious. But he’s got away with that one.
It’s timmy time
