A 19-year-old who crashed a car and left it at the roadside upside down and in an unrecognisable state has been sentenced after pleading guilty to a number of motoring offences.
Erkan Lusha, formerly of Broadway in Sandown but now living on Old Commercial Road in Portsmouth, was due to appear before Magistrates on 27th January charged with 5 offences; failing to stop after an accident, failing to report an accident, leaving a vehicle in a dangerous position, driving without insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence. However, he failed to show and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
He was then put before the courts on 6th February where he pleaded guilty to all 5 offences. He was bailed to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court for sentencing on 13th March, but the case was adjourned at the request of the Probation Service. He then appeared before Portsmouth Magistrates on Thursday 6th April, but the case was once again adjourned until 18th May.
For reasons unknown, the case was then adjourned again until 30th June.
Now, 5 months after the case was 1st heard, Lusha has finally been sentenced.
The court heard that it was during the early hours of 1st December last year – at around 04:30 – that Lusha was driving a Renault Scenic along Beaper Shute from Brading towards Ryde. The vehicle had rolled and taken out a ‘reduce speed now’ road sign, coming to rest upside down with significant damage, as previously reported by Island Echo.
The teen – who recently completed a Level 1 mechanics course at the Isle of Wight College and is hoping to complete Level 2 in Portsmouth starting in September – fled the scene before Police could arrive.
Magistrates sitting in Portsmouth have this week sentenced Erkan Lusha to a 12-month conditional discharge. He was banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a £120 fine and a £48 surcharge fee.
At the end of March Island Echo reported on the conviction of Lusha on 2 counts of possessing Class A drugs – namely crack cocaine.

Such a lenient sentence for such a serious crime.
NO LAW AND ORDER ON THE ISLAND
Because FATE decided he didn’t kill, or maim for life an innocent driver, the courts let the low life get away with it.
Can only pray that the judge, or magistrates loved ones are destroyed by similar one day, then and only then they ‘may’ see their folly.
? High on Coke, totals a car, fled scene, arrest warrant issued, only gets 12mth ban and conditional discharge. No wonder young people carry on driving with out licence or Insurance. Absolutely no deterant.
What a joke of a sentence
Ah yes the Renault Scenic. The most high performance of performance cars. If you want to drive like a muppet go to a track day theres plenty of them. That’s what I do then you can drive how you want safely
And that’s all he got sentenced for, bet he drove home from court and stuck ✌️up to everyone
Just been caught doing 35 in a 30 limit – yes my fault but the fine was £100 this has to be a joke surely
You deserved the fine, because you broke the law.
You self righteous cunt.
Ok terry baby calm down terry baby
It’s the first of July today , not the 1st of April !!!
All the fines are nothing compared to what his future insurance policies are going to cost. That’s if he can get insurance.
He won’t bother with insurance.
Tories, the party of law and order, yeh right. More like party of lawlessness and disorder.
