A car has been left unrecognisable after careering into a road sign and rolling over – coming to rest on its roof – on Beaper Shute between Ryde and Brading this morning (Thursday).
Police are currently on scene at Whitefield Woods where the single vehicle has been found in a severely damaged state at the side of the road.
It appears the vehicle was travelling towards Ryde when the driver seemingly lost control, resulting in the car rolling over and coming to a stop upside down.
The incident is thought to have occurred sometime around 04:30.
Firefighters from Ryde have been in attendance in the interests of scene safety, but they have now stood down and returned to station.
Recovery of the wreckage is underway and the road remains open, but Police may temporarily have to bring traffic to a halt to allow the recovery to be completed.
UPDATE @ 12:58 – Police have confirmed they were called to the scene at 04:28 this morning following reports of a single vehicle collision.
1 person received minor injuries.
No arrests have been made and no offences identified.
This was always going to happen with these modern driver less cars!

Old people who you refer to are decent enough not to leave the scene. This is most likely a drug/drunk driver or someone who has no insurance or tax. Something to hide because why would you leave the scene?

Agreed but you can rule out the icy road suggestion, tarmac needs to be sub zero to freeze and it certainly wasn’t cold enough for that tarmac to freeze last night.
