The car park of a planned Aldi store in Ryde could be extended with 23 extra spaces to reduce the risk of overspill into the surrounding area.
In March, County Hall approved a proposal for a new discount supermarket at Cothey Way in Ryde, including 12 electric vehicle charging stations as well as associated parking, landscaping and infrastructure, after 300 letters of support.
Aldi has now submitted plans to increase parking provision from 114 to 137 spaces, according to a Planning Statement from Zesta.
The supermarket giant previously said the new store will improve access to an award-winning range of high-quality, low-cost products, improving customer choice while reducing the need to travel to supermarkets further afield.
Its latest application includes a revised car park layout, associated landscaping and infrastructure works. Zesta said:
“The level of parking now proposed is better aligned with the council’s adopted parking guidance than the originally approved provision.
“The council has itself recognised that under-provision of parking leads to high levels of on-street parking, and the extension therefore reduces the risk of informal overspill parking within the surrounding business park, while providing a more robust basis for the effective operation of the approved store.”
Members of the public can comment on proposal 26/01432/FUL until 13th November and a decision is scheduled for 9th December.
