A cyclist has been injured in a road traffic incident in Ryde this morning (Friday).
Members of the public are tending to the injured rider, who has come off their bicycle on the roundabout at the junction of Marlborough Road and Appley Road, close to Oakfield Primary School.
It’s unclear if any other vehicles have been involved in the incident.
Emergency services have been alerted but are not yet in attendance.
Traffic is slow in the area and vehicles travelling north along Marlborough Road are being turned around.
UPDATE – The cyclist is being tended to by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Police have now re-opened the road following a short closure.
Best wishes to the cyclist. Obviously don’t know circumstances, but had lots of near misses cycling here, much worse than smallbrook ever was.
I think more education for cyclists is required on the Island.
Wearing a bobble hat or nothing on your head is madness – seen it 3 times this week
No rear light, or a dimly lit one at night is not cool – also witnessed this
Riding with your legs and not holding onto the handlebars – looks dangerous, not cool
I do hope the cyclist in the story is okay
He was wearing a cycling helmet and high visibility clothing.
I do the exact opposite to what you saw 3 times this week as i value ny life.
Sorry , As a car driver its not necessary the cyclists fault, for an example, this morning I was behind a cyclist going along Carisbrooke road, I could not pass safely however because I would not pass the car behind not only was tailgating it was indicating to over take and moving out into the centre of the road, if I had of overtaken the cyclist at that point there would have been an accident , not the fault of the cyclist
I was on my way to work this morning on my bike
I have a bright yellow reflective jacket a bern cycle helmet and front/rear lights so I can’t be missed and some women in a car nearly pulled out on me. Her front wheels were way past the junction lines before she saw me twenty yards away
Wednesday I followed cyclist through Rookley, all in black,no front light, doing 35 in 30 down hill towards Newport, car about to pull out Chilerton junction,he was lucky – at least he had helmet camera so he could try blame someone else, but no worry I had my dash cam trained on him – selfish. Possibly same twit that goes full pelt down Whitwell High street, goes over speed limit and all in black. Please think- can I be seen ? wear bright clothing, helmet ,front light and slow down some of you, you give a bad name to all those that are sensible. Not saying this is fault of cyclist and hope they are ok.
yes i think iv seen this same nutcase
some thick skulls cant be educated though.
Freddie, please upload a link to your dash cam footage so we can all see this for ourselves. Although irrelevant as not breaking the law, I’m Interested to know how you so accurately give his speed?
All this friction, all this conflict between motorists and cyclists could be avoided with proper infrastructure, like they have on the continent. Old railway routes could be opened up (Freshwater to Newport please) for example. Funding available.
As both a cyclist, pedestrian and motorist, I would love to cycle more but it’s too dangerous and even scary, given the high speeds and closeness of passing traffic etc. So I have to fire up my oil burner.
The English roads are narrow, designed for slow moving horse and carts – difficulties are inevitable, so we all need to be extra accommodating and patient.
All cyclists should get a job. Then they would be able to afford a Car.
If you have nothing sensible to add to the conversation, you should keep your comments to yourself
Some poor person has an accident and the trolls come straight out of their caves, how predictable
If I wanted your opinion I would have given it to you.Sad Muppet
