Motorists are facing lengthy tailbacks in Newport this lunchtime (Monday) as a result of a 2-car crash on the dual carriageway at St Mary’s Junction.
Police are in attendance at the incident, which has occurred on the northbound carriageway on the approach to the traffic lights.
1 vehicle is said to have gone into the back of another.
Traffic is backing up down Medina Way to the Lidl sliproad – and is also heavy around St Mary’s Junction on all approaches.
There are also delays in the town due to a fire service incident at Morrisons in South Street, plus 3-way temporary traffic lights on St James’ Street.
UPDATE @ 13:34 – The incident has now been cleared and traffic is flowing once again.
No injuries have been reported.

St Mary’s junction is one of the worse areas of the new roundabout, so many cars get into the incorrect lane to either continue to Cowes or go to hospital, on the way out of hospital it is just as bad, had several near misses from drivers in both directions.
Agreed,if you are a holiday maker and not know the area it’s a recipe for serious accident. Why is there few lane markings and signage compared to mainland junctions?. If you come up from college you cannot even see where Cowes Road is till you come over hill and no lane markings on road, you then have six lanes to the right, with one little keep left arrow. Why not no entry signs like other junctions?.
Like Coppins Bridge roundabout, designed by a desk driver.
More idiots will be along soon…
Going out then?
spot on
Well said
You will never stop my freedom of speech, and you will never stop my freedom of thought….
It is not your freedom of speech that irritates people it’s just that your command of the English language seems to involve only six words.
What is it about people like you that struggle with reality?…the standard of drivers on this island is collapsing by the day, every day peoples lives are at risk and you continue to make up excuses for bad driving…you spend all your time insulting comments that don’t fit your ignorant ideology, because you can’t except reality….
As you are the first!
How sad, in your little world, that you seem to thrive on others giving you negative feedback on your remedial comments. That really should be quite a worry for you.
No worries for me, it explains why we have so many deaths and crashes on the island, most of you that can’t except reality are the problem…..that’s why I usually say more of you will be along soon….and I’m always right, because most island drivers are idiots….
Just as I thought it would go…straight over your head! As I keep trying to tell you, the thumbs down should be a bit of a clue for you.
More OAP’s will be crashing soon
Another idiot posting comments without no reports of age or sex of the driver involved. Keep posting mate – one day it’ll be an intelligent one. Glad to see no injuries reported.
Cheers mate, 9 times out of 10 I’m probably right
great sense of humour . Keep thinking 9 times out of 10 . You’re obviously happy in your world. I’m still happy that no one was injured on this occasion. Have a great day mate.
Not humour mate just facts based on what I witness, you seem a bit offended, are you an OAP by any chance?
Funny enough I’m a young 70. Been driving motorcycles and cars for over 50 years both here and on the mainland, still got a clean licence. No way what anybody says or writes I don’t get offended . Still a bit puzzled with your statement ‘facts based on what I witness. Were you there mate ? Take care out there on the road some dodgy drivers about there – young, middle aged and old. Male and female. Cars and motorcycles.
I rest my case mate, please think of others and mayby consider giving up your license soon. I no it must be hard but it could save lives.
I’ll carry on for a while thank you but I’m one of the safer drivers out there. Will definitely give up my licence when I turn 75.
So you base your ‘facts’ purely on what you witness, Bobby and ignore all those carefully gathered and presented statistics? Hmmmm. Empiricism is not at all useful in cases like this as we all witness different things and in different ways and have different lives and have our own prejudices we seek to confirm as ‘facts’. I feel for you.
Surely, you mean more FEMALE OAP’s will be crashing soon ?
Most of the fellows are pretty good.
AGEIST AND SEXIST!
You really are an obnoxious piece of excrement, Alamo.
Bob, why do you have to be so offensive?
I got caught behind it, if no is injured why can’t they move the cars out the way.
They we’re standing in the road looking at each other!!!!
Because most peeps have no idea about moving cars… but maybe they were so badly damaged niether could move. We don’t know…
No because if careless motorists have caused them to get off their backsides, then delay all motorists as to make a point.
With cameras it would take seconds to film the accident and then clear the site.
We don’t have to have a period of ‘mourning’ even if someone is tragically killed, life goes on for the rest of us.
More bad driving on the Iw
I blame the Audi driver
