Police have closed The Mall in Carisbrooke as a result of a collision involving 2 cars and a van tonight (Saturday).
A red Renault Clio has collided with a white Dacia Duster before ploughing into a parked van.
The crash occurred just moments before 19:30, with Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service deployed to the scene.
Paramedics are checking over the driver of the car, although no serious injuries are thought to have been sustained.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of the crash.
It’s the third notable road traffic collision of the day, with emergency crews also dealing with crashes on The Racecourse near Newport and Albert Road in Sandown early this morning.
UPDATE @ 21:43 – The road has now reopened in both directions.
UPDATE @ 12:25 – Police have confirmed that the driver of the Renault, a 24-year-old woman with a Coventry address, has been arrested for immigration offences and is currently in police custody.
Although the driver has given a Coventry address, it’s known that the Renault is Isle of Wight (HW) registered.
The 83-year-old male driver of the Dacia, from Newport, was uninjured.
The crash is still currently being investigated.

What is going on it’s bloody caos on the island its just one thing after another.
‘Chaos’ Hayley !
They need to stop the parking there, it’s a main thoroughfare and a major pita!
I couldn’t agree more with this comment, the parked cars there are nothing but a hazard, along with the long line of parked cars further down the road towards Carisbrooke, between the junction of Recreation Ground road and the mini roundabout at Wellington Road. This is a main road and shouldn’t be obstructed in this way!
From what I have seen IW Highways need to be trained in Road Safety, they are clueless.
Even Bus Stops are in Dangerous positions
2 down Melville Street in Sandown to name a few.
Why do the island council need to sort out the poor driving standards on the island. If it’s not drug or drunk drivers its then the councils problem! If you have a driving licence you have taken a test that shows you are fit to drive. Stop blaming others for your poor driving standards. The past 6 weeks is a shocking rate of crashes and drunk and drug drivers. Look at the 2 this morning, one without a licence and drunk, then another that a women and man ran off! Damage to the value of thousands ! All year you blame the mainland folk for issues when you need to look closer to home. Drink and drugs are an issue , face the facts.
Coventry is mainland isn’t it??
Generally the standard of driving on the island is very poor. This is due to lack of inforcement and lack of driver knowledge of the driving rules of the road. When was the last time you read the highway code? Could you pass a theory test today? Then if everyone following the rules maybe the island roads would be a safer place for us all.
Aggressive driving. They’ll see drivers coming towards them on the clear ide of the road but will insist on overtaking parked cars on their side of the road with complete disregard in an attempt to force oncoming traffic to stop. It’s the ‘me’ culture. Plus an inability to read and predict the road ahead. The same as those who will follow others cars around a line of parked vehicles without knowing or even thinking about whether there’s room to tuck in when meeting oncoming traffic. Aggressive, thoughtless, selfish road users. If only they’d stop to think how much it’ going to cost them when their insurance goes through the roof.
With all this overcrowded talk and crashes, I have an idea!!! Let’s have a fixed link and get thousands of cars over here yeahhh what’s great idea
Ever stopped to think how many thousand would happily vacate the island? Just a thought.
Cars parked legally on the road are not the problem. It’s the drivers who are too impatient, impaired by drink or drugs, or distracted by mobile phones who are the problem. The parked cars are visible, and if anything, they are a natural traffic calming measure. I agree with others, that we need to get the fixed speed cameras back in place and working, plus taking pictures from the rear so that number plates of motorcycles can be identified. We need a road policing unit dedicated to the island to tackle problems in the road. Also stop vehicles parking on pavements, causing mobility scooters finding a dropped kerb to access the road
Oh…that explains it, illegal immigrant from Coventry..now we know.
Send her back to Coventry where she belongs.
People think they can do what they like? Luckily The male driver was unhurt, his car damaged through no fault of his own. you will get caught, hopefully before you seriously hurt or kill someone! Immigration offences thats worrying too!
Keep up the fantastic work police x
