Access to Compton Beach from the car park at Hanover Point has been temporarily closed due to damage sustained to the steps.
The steps that access the beach from the car park have become damaged, as has the pipe that runs beneath them.
Structural engineers will visit the site to assess the safety of the access steps as soon as possible.
Members of the public are advised not to attempt to use the steps or to attempt to access the beach via the cliff face. Alternative access to Compton beach will be possible using the steps at Compton Farm/Compton Cottages (Public Footpath F68) or access via Brook car park off the Military Road near Brook Chine (Public Footpath BS103). Tide times should be noted to avoid any possibility of getting cut off.
