A 16-year-old boy from the Isle of Wight who threatened another boy with a kitchen knife has been handed a 10-month referral order and has also been made subject to a 21-month criminal behaviour order.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to the offence of threatening a person with a blade in a public place back in October and was sentenced at the Isle of Wight Youth Court last week.
The incident happened on an alleyway between St Urians and Sandown Road in Lake back on 14th September 2022, as previously reported by Island Echo. At the time it was reported that the 16-year-old victim had narrowly avoided being stabbed.
It was detailed to the court how the-then 15-year-old accused intentionally threatened another person with a knife in such a way that a reasonable person who was exposed to the same threat would think that there was an immediate risk of physical harm.
2 other charges of stealing £100 of cash from the victim and attempting to unlawfully and maliciously wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm were dismissed, with magistrates finding the defendant not guilty on both counts.
In sentencing, Magistrates decided to hand the teen a referral order of 10 months.
However, due to a number of other offences committed by the same lad including 2x Section 18 wounding, 2x theft and burglary, Magistrates also granted a 21-month criminal behaviour order. Island Echo previously reported on the theft and burglary incidents.
This means the 16-year-old must now engage with education provision as directed by the Isle of Wight Council and must not associate with 3 other local teenagers. Furthermore, he must not enter any retail premises from which he is banned without being supervised by an adult. He has also been banned from entering certain areas of Ryde.
