A number of sailings on Red Funnel’s East Cowes to Southampton car ferry service have been cancelled this morning (Friday) due to a technical issue.
The 07:00 and 08:30 from Southampton have both been pulled, alongside the 08:30 from East Cowes.
The Cross-Solent operator hasn’t expanded on what the technical issue is and it’s unclear at this stage how many other sailings will be affected.
UPDATE @ 10:06 – The 10:00 Southampton to East Cowes sailing has been cancelled.
Red Funnel say that all sailings are delayed by up to 1 hour due to the earlier technical issue.
About time these ferries got sorted with the approaching summer traffic. It’s not just about visitors but essential services for Islanders needing to come and go sometimes urgently.
Careful now, efficient technicians on the Island are actively suppressed. Most Island authoritys, fundamental Infrastructure etc.. all fail. The capacity to perceive the essential is clearly not there purpose or why they are organized.
This is a soft spot… Apparently. I agree, needs urgent attention.

Technical difficulties if it’s not red funnel it’s wightlink their seems to be a lot of technical difficulties this year with both its becoming a joke
Robbing so and so’s and Wightlink are just as bad. Always problems, no standby vessel. To go away this week Thurs to Sat was £160 return. Had to use 2 day return voucher codes, and only use half of each ticket. Total £72, still too expensive!!. As soon as this cartel is broken up the better. we need standard pricing, £25 single or £40 return year round. Also remove Signature lounge which is almost always empty, while in peak you can’t find a seat. Oh and get the lifts fixed, plus reduce the exorbitant cost for food & drink. The new freight ferry is a waste, 12 lorries and 12 passengers removed from normal sailings, but up to 40 extra cars with upto 160 extra passengers, trying to find a seat in peak times. No wonder tourism on the island is dwindling. You can get a week away in Spain for less. I reluctantly think, a fixed link will sadly be the only answer, unless we nationalise the operation, or allow other smaller operators to share the berths, to create competition. I don’t care how new the boat is, as long as I get a seat that’s fine. Just lower your fares, so islanders feel less isolated!!! And Red Funnel / Wightlink, if you are reading this, don’t just put out a standard corporate response, Listen to your passengers, and do things differently.
