Islander Tara Richardson braved the shave yesterday (Sunday) for MacMillian Cancer Support.
After suffering unimaginable pain from losing several family members to cancer throughout her life, the 41-year-old artist decided to do something to help raise funds to help work towards a brighter future for everyone.
Tara became a brave shaver and cut her lengthy black hair off, all in aid of charity. So far she has raised £400, with more donations set to come in next week.
Tara said:
“This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while. I’ve lost so many close family members to cancer – I have no memory of my grandfather as he passed away when I was just 2, then I lost my mum in August 1995 when I was 21…. she was just 55. I then lost my auntie in 2010 and just last September my dad lost his battle with cancer aged 72.
“In 2012 I had some involvement with a young family from the island whose daughter – Sophie Rolf – had just begun fighting a brain tumour. Sophie was such an amazing little girl and I shall never forget meeting her and her family, she was only 5 when she passed away.
“I wanted to do something to show my support to all those who have won the fight, those who have lost a loved one and those currently fighting the battle”.
“I’d like to thank my family and friends for all the support they’ve shown and the generous donations, I hope in some small way the money I’ve raised can help work towards a brighter future for everyone”.
