A burst water main that led to the loss of supply for 10,000 properties in Shanklin and the surrounding areas has now been fixed, with taps running in households once again this morning (Friday).
Southern Water engineers have worked through the night to complete repairs to the truck main at Blackwater, near Newport, and bleed the system of airlocks.
Almost all affected properties will already have had water restored overnight, but any remaining properties are expected to be back in supply later this morning.
As a precautionary measure, 2 bottled water stations at Morrisons in Lake and Co-op in Shanklin (pedestrians open) will be open from 08:00.
All Priority Service Register customers have now received a delivery of bottled water to their doorsteps, with further deliveries planned this morning. Vulnerable customers or customers who require water for a medical condition can call 0330 303 0368.
Stephanie Davidovitz, Head of Water Networks and Customer Water Operations, has said:
“The burst main has been fixed and our teams have worked throughout the night to bleed any airlocks as we slowly reintroduced water back into the network.
“Most customers will already have had water restored overnight, and any remaining properties are expected to be back in supply later this morning.
“We’re sorry for the inconvenience this has caused, and thank customers for their patience while repaired the problem.”
