A large number of Police officers descended on Shanklin last night in connection with a suspected vehicle theft, which resulted in a taser being deployed.
Eagle-eyed Island Echo readers reported spotting up to 7 Police vehicles in the Queens Road area of the town shortly after 19:30.
Hampshire Constabulary have today confirmed that officers were making enquiries in the area in relation to the suspected theft of a motor vehicle – thought to be a van.
A 22-year-old man and a 23-year-old man, both from Sandown, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
Both have since been released with no further action to be taken for this alleged offence.
Despite local rumour, the incident was in no way connected to the ongoing search for a male following last week’s crash on Briddlesford Road.
UPDATE @ 16:23 – A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that a Taser was deployed during this incident.
