A 56-year-old man arrested on suspicion of carrying out a number of arson attacks in East Cowes, which caused some £400,000 of damage, has been bailed until December.
After months of investigations, Police travelled in convoy into East Cowes yesterday morning (Friday) to arrest their prime suspect who is accused of carrying out a series of arsons between July 2022 and June this year.
Officers descended on the Kingslea Road area shortly after 09:00 and detained the 56-year-old, as well as seizing a motor home and a car.
Detectives and local officers have been probing a suspected serial arsonist after almost a dozen vehicles were set alight in the York Avenue, Mayfield Road, Victoria Grove and Kent Avenue areas over a 12 month period. All of the fires were reported on by Island Echo.
It was revealed in an update from Police yesterday that they believe the same person who set fire to the vehicles is also the same person who set fire to a house in Princess Close in June, as first reported by Island Echo.
The same property suffered fire damage when 2 cars went up in flames on the driveway back in 2018.
It’s said that the most recent incidents have caused an estimated £350,000-400,000 in damages.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed this lunchtime that their suspect has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
He is due back at Newport Police Station on 1st December.

If he is charged then I bet they give him a suspended sentence and a £75 fine.
The judges are so soft I also bet he won’t have to pay the full amount of the £400,000 damage he caused.
Disgraceful behaviour from his parents too by sticking up for him on social media saying that’s our son.
Bailed? Now he’s going to be even angrier than normal and I expect he’ll try and squeeze a few more torchings in.
Are they saying the same person who is suspected of setting cars and vans on fire is also responsible of the roof fire ? . ?
Yes same guy is suspected. There must be cctv. Everyone has a camera doorbell these days.
The same property suffered fire damage when 2 cars went up in flames on the driveway back in 2018. Told you it was the SAME HOUSE
Lock him up and set fire to all his stuff scum
He’s already burnt it all, several times over, which the insurance has replaced…
No doubt he’ll want to go out in a Blaze of Glory!
If locals see their house insurance premiums sky rocket. Guess who to blame….
Terrifying that it’s deemed safe to bail him…. he’s clearly a danger to himself and others.
Nobody snuck into his house and set fire to it, while he was sitting in the garden…
And what kind of sicko stands right outside their house, watching it burn…
What!!? He should be in a secure unit if he is an arsonist. You could get life for setting fire to property,
Not enough to charge ?, not really any evidence then like the two who were arrested for exposure who both turned out inocent, however If he is the culprit and he now starts another fire and someone dies, then Police need to be liable .
Police cant conjure up evidence you clown. That is why they arrest on suspicion to allow evidence and forensic evidence to be obtained.
Months of investigations. I had videos personally taken of the fires after just kicking in, I contacted the local police. No reply. They weren’t that bothered.
Burning a beer lorry, unforgivable. .
After all the planning and collating of evidence by the police how can a person who has ruined so many lives and also endanger so many lives be out on bail??? The only good thing is that the victim’s now know who he is an sure he will be in the news soon under revenge attack.
And they let him leave the country on holiday!!! How?
An arrest on suspicion allows them to gather evidence from the suspect and the suspects home, car etc. Something they cant really do until arrested. Standard procedure really.
Tories closed all the prisons. What you expect, no room at the inn. Only need just enough police to protect the ruling elite and their mates. The rest of us can go and whistle.
So will labour open them all again ??
I hear they have gone on a holiday. So much for justice
So they got him then let him out great Bet he gets fall…
