Suspected metal thieves have targeted a Coastguard station on the Isle of Wight overnight, potentially putting lives at risk.
Officers from Bembridge Coastguard arrived at the station on Beachfield Road earlier today (Sunday) to find their communications not working correctly.
It was soon discovered that damage had been caused to the station’s VHF aerial – a vital piece of equipment that is used to communicate with vessels off the coast of the Isle of Wight and Solent Coastguard on the mainland.
According to the team, it appears persons unknown have attempted to remove cables and a lightning conductor from the roof.
Thankfully, the individuals responsible failed to make off with the metal.
Taking to social media, Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team have said:
“This is totally unacceptable behaviour and it could have left us with limited comms”.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police on 101, quoting SD-6675-21-444-00.
Hopefully the offender’s will be caught soon, put on a raft and set to sea. The lifeboat crews will not know we’re they are to help.
What a shame.
Hopefully with a hole in it
Absolute scum lowest of the low
Drugs dealers with access to firearms, Arson at Steyne Park and now thieves stealing scrap, soon Bembridge will regret having a growing amount of social housing within it’s environs.
Pondlife scum, hope they are caught and dealt with appropriately.
