Freshwater Lifeboat held a very successful and much-awaited Open Day last weekend – the first in well over a year.
The event got off to an amazing start with community partners and fellow emergency services gathering at the start of what was a pleasant summer’s day. Freshwater Fire Station were on hand with their pumping appliance and information stands were set up by National Coastwatch Needles and WightSAR.
Crowds grew throughout the afternoon with the raffle table proving to be popular as always. The prizes on offer were exceptional with 5 return tickets onboard Red Funnel’s ferry on offer and even a pair of weekend tickets to the Isle of Wight Festival.
There was no chance of people going hungry with Freshwater Residents Association manning the BBQ and the lifeboat volunteers cooking up a storm with a selection of 18 different cakes.
The pirate-themed fancy dress could be seen all around and was enjoyed by many, as was the entertainment from live bands on offer throughout the afternoon.
Rod Adams, Principle Fundraiser said:
“We raised an incredible £5,500 in this, our 2021 Open Day! This massive and record amount was the result of a lot of hard work by our team of volunteers and friends without whom we could not keep the service running. It was gratifying to see so many people in the bay obviously really enjoying themselves. Everyone really needed this wonderful boost of normality after a very hard 15 months.”
As the Open Day wound down and stalls were packed away it was time to relax and chill as the music and entertainment continued late into the night.
