A raffle-funded Christmas tree at Newport Minster received its crowning star with the help of firefighters from Newport Fire Station.
Clergy and volunteers have been decorating the tree, that was funded by a raffle at the recent G4 concert and provided by Shide Trees. However, the team realised that they didn’t have a ladder long enough to reach the top of the tree to place the star.
Rev. Stephen Sutcliffe popped round to the Minsters near neighbours at Newport Fire Station to ask a favour and see if they would lend the team a ladder!
Newport Fire Station’s Red Watch arrived the following evening and assisted in placing the star atop the church’s towering Christmas tree. Due to the height of the tree, church staff required professional equipment and trained personnel to safely complete the task.
The fire service volunteered their time and expertise, using specialised ladders to carefully position the star at the tree’s peak.
Rev. Steve team Vicar expressed gratitude for the firefighters’ assistance.
“Their generosity and willingness to help embody the true spirit of Christmas. The star now shines brightly for all to see, reminding us of hope, light, and joy.”
