A flood alert has been issued for the St Johns area of Ryde this morning (Tuesday) following another night of heavy rain, with over 30mm falling in just 4 hours.
The Environment Agency say that the water level in the Monktonmead Brook is high and rising following the latest downpour, which saw half a month’s worth of rain fall in just a few hours.
In the next hour, water will begin to flow across the railway tracks upstream of St Johns Train Station. Surface water may already be causing impacts as drains become overloaded.
Property flooding is not currently expected at this time but the situation is being keep under review by EA operational staff, who are working to keep the Monktonmead Brook clear of reported blockages.
Those living and working in the area are being advised to consider moving vehicles from roads depots located next to the river and railway line.

Simplest way to stop this is to build a thousand houses and tarmac over all of Ryde’s upper fields. Ought to be no problems then…
And where may I ask will the water go then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, the irony!!
