Southern Vectis has announced that it will reinstate a Sunday service for its Route 6 buses.
The operator will run three return journeys from Sunday (13th December) for those living within the local communities – thanks to support from Chale and Chillerton parish councils
Matt Kitchin, general manager of Southern Vectis said:
“When the Isle of Wight Council took the decision to withdraw all funding for route 6 earlier this year, we reviewed the entire route and retained as many journeys as we could.
“The current timetable is run entirely on a commercial basis – the first time in many years that a bus service for the rural communities we serve has been operated without local authority funding.
“Sadly we couldn’t retain all journeys on a commercial basis, including the winter Sunday service. So we are delighted that Chale and Chillerton parish councils have stepped in with support – and we have worked closely with them to reinstate these three return journeys.”
Vice-chair of Chillerton and Gatcombe Parish Council Gillian Belben said:
“The difficulties our parishioners have experienced with the loss of a Sunday service could not be ignored and we are pleased to be joining with Chale Parish Council to fund its re-introduction.”
