Southern Vectis is offering half-price travel for the whole of World Car Free Day on Sunday 22nd September, in a bid to encourage more people to use sustainable transport.
Anyone using the bus operator’s app will be able to download the special 24-hour Rover ticket and enjoy travel across the Isle of Wight.
World Car Free Day is an initiative aimed at easing congestion and improving air quality by promoting mass transit, cycling and walking to motorists as alternative methods of travel.
Andrew Wickham, Managing Director at Southern Vectis, says:
“At Southern Vectis, we welcome any initiative designed to reduce the harmful effects exhaust emissions have on the environment.
“In recent years, we have invested millions of pounds in a new fleet of buses to operate our services across the island. Our newest vehicles sport the very latest Euro 6 engine – releasing fewer emissions than the average new diesel car.
“In addition to these, we are set to welcome 22 electric buses in 2026, as part of our partnership with Isle of Wight Council – and funding from the Government’s Zero Emission Bus Regional Area 2 (ZEBRA 2) scheme.
“World Car Free Day ties in perfectly with what we are trying to achieve on the Isle of Wight. Buses provide the perfect and affordable solution to reducing air pollution, so we’re proud to have invested in improving the comfort and reliability of our services here.
“Our team is hoping local people downloading our app will take advantage of the chance to travel all day for half price on Sunday 22 September – particularly those who may otherwise use their cars. We look forward to welcoming them on-board.”
Those taking advantage of the World Car Free Day offer can download the special 24 hour Rover ticket on the app for £5.25 using the code CARFREE24.
Even those wishing to take just a single journey can still take advantage of the £2 fare cap – part of the Government’s Help for Households scheme – which is currently in place for travel across the Southern Vectis network.
Cricky it’s only £ 2.00 a trip anyway isn’t it.
