Songs of the Sea, a charity music event raising money for the RNLI, is set to return to Ventnor by popular demand.
The weekend of September 20th and 21st sees The Spyglass Inn host the free festival in aid of the RNLI, with two days of Folk, Acoustic and Shanty Music, all with a splash of salt water!
Organiser and owner of The Spyglass, Meg Mortimer says:
“After the success of last year’s Songs of the Sea, we decided to continue with the event for 2014 and are excited to be supporting the RNLI and the work that they do to keep us all safe at sea.
“The Spyglass Inn has a long standing history of live music and supporting local entertainers so it made sense to broaden the event and, like all our other musical events, it is offered free of charge and we welcome anyone who wants to come down and enjoy this great weekend of nautical music right here on the beach”.
Artists performing over the two days include headliner Tom Lewis, who is a 24 year veteran of Her Majesty’s Royal Naval diesel submarines. His songs cover a wide range of nautical topics, from life on board the naval ships, the lure of the sea to traditional shanties and classical nautical poetry.
Sunday’s headliner is Island favourite Dance Preachers, with their unique mix of Latin American, Avant-garde Folk and Jazz.
With more great live music over the two days from artists such as Pete’s Sake, Dollymopps, Nils Mason and Brighstone Barnacles, its bound to be an excellent weekend.
The event runs from 12 noon until late both days. For more information see www.thespyglass.com.
