Southern Water are delivering bottled water to those who are still without supply following a mains burst in Newport this morning (Sunday).
As first reported by Island Echo, Southern Water was made aware of a burst main on Hunnyhill at around 04:00 this morning.
Residents in Newport faced water pressure issues whilst some had no water at all.
At around 10:30 Southern Water announced that most of the affected properties should be back in supply, however some residents still had no water.
Some Island Echo readers have said that their water was reinstated this morning but has since gone again – and hasn’t come back on since.
As a result, the water company have said that alternative supplies will be delivered to customers that need them.
Customers are urged to contact the customer service team.
UPDATE @ 20:55 – Southern Water have said that they have re-routed water from the burst and that they hope all customers now have supply.
Works to repair the issue remain ongoing with Hunnyhill remaining closed to through traffic a to be ‘access only’ to premises until works are completed. A diversion will be in place through Riverway Industrial Estate.
UPDATE @ 22:30 – The latest from Southern Water is that crews are continuing to repair the burst main, with contractors working throughout the night to repair the pipe and restore supplies to those remaining affected premises as soon as possible.
Josh, a spokesperson for Southern Water on their social media channels replied to a resident in regards to an estimated time of restoration with:
“Whilst I cannot speculate as to an approximate time, we are working through the night to try and have you back in supply for the morning.
“Please do get in touch if you need a bottled water delivery as I can have that arranged for you, I can only apologise for the disturbances.”

UPDATE @ 23:00 – Southern Vectis’ Route 1 buses can not use Hunnyhill in either direction due to a hard closure.
The road closure will remain in place for the rest of this evening until further notice.
