Hovertravel’s Solent Flyer has returned to Ryde this morning (Thursday) having been out of service for the past 11 weeks.
The troubled craft has been undergoing major repair work and alterations at Griffon Hoverwork in Southampton following a breakdown on 20th September.
Over the past 11 weeks the Ryde to Southsea passenger service has been down to just 1 craft, which has resulted in frequent suspension of service. However, with 2 craft now on the pad it is expected that Hovertravel’s reliability will improve.
That said, sister craft Island Flyer is scheduled to depart the Isle of Wight for Southampton in January to undergo the same work. According to Hovertravel, the work to Island Flyer will take less time than Solent Flyer but no exact timeframe has been given.
