Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is attending a property in Whippingham near East Cowes this morning (Thursday) due to reports of a strong smell of gas.
Appliances from Newport and Ryde are currently on scene at Folly Lane having been mobilised at 09:28.
According to fire control, a strong smell of gas has been reported within a residential address that is now being ventilated.
Investigations are still underway at the scene to ascertain the source of the smell.
UPDATE – Fire crews have now stood down from the incident.
Had that once when returning from holiday after 14 hours travelling we got home and my partner kept telling me she could smell gas, so after a couple of hours of lifting floorboards checking all the pipes for leaks finally exhasted I gave up and called the Gas company. An engineer was promptly sent who after a quick search located the offending smell to a dead mouse behind a radiator, our pure white cat who had been watching the going’s on quickly left via the cat flap.
