A Southern Vectis bus has somehow ended up sideways across a main road in Seaview this evening (Saturday).
The Route 8 was serving the East Wight when, during the course of performing a 3-point turn, it grounded out on a steep driveway on Seaview Lane.
Unable to move, the bus is currently blocking the entirety of the main road between Nettlestone and Seaview.
This is the 2nd time in as many weeks that a Public Service Vehicle (PSV), has become stuck on Island roads, after a double-decker coach became stuck in Binstead a couple of weeks ago.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area with it set to be a long time until the bus is moved.
UPDATE @ 20:15 – The bus has been recovered and the road is now clear.
Not surprised after I had a single decker with Learner driver in Station road Wootton cut the corner badly and the instructor didn’t notice passing the woodmans arms with the rear offside axle over completely the centre line close near miss
On that narrow section you have no option than to be over the white line because of the length & width of the bus
Really so how can a double rear axle 32 ton tipper manage then and so can a good many double decker drivers too, more like the instructor wasn’t fully concentrating at that moment
Because he or she is learning to drive, probably never driven a large vehicle, for those of us who have we know the length & width of what we are driving but if you are learning to drive you are over cautious & for good reason
I wasn’t going on about the learner driver I was going on about the trainer driver not aware what happened mind not focused the learner is learning that I except and obviously will be cautious and yes I drive buses trucks artic and motorcycles occasionally plant vehicles

Why ?, Island Roads playing with road closed ahead and road closed signs – as they don’t seem to know difference nowadays. Must be reason needing to turn round, not something buses need to do very often!.

I can easy they are auto and only 12 ton single axle steering wheel attendant hard bit is passengers that’s the distraction bit that’s why I prefer LGV slower harder to manoeuvre but no passengers and more gears 16 speed twin split that’s a work out

Very strange how southern vectis failed to update their own website about this? Could have been either a badly parked vehicle blocking the road or an emergency closure, because buses don’t just do 3 point turns for the fun of it

We have no information about the reasons for the 3-point turn. So there is no way that anyone can judge the driver for trying to turn the bus. As general rule, I do occasionally use Southern Vectis buses, and I am nearly always amazed on how well the drivers deal with often very difficult road conditions.
You turn if you want to, the bus is not for turning….
Why are double decker buses going rod Binstead and seaview it’s bloody crazy. To make it worse they are never even half full.

The buses are way too big for Island roads. It’s so obvious when you compare the new buses to the old buses. The bus drivers have to use the whole carriageway in so many places such as the Old Village, Shanklin. Their width causes congestion for other road uses and often there are only a handful of passengers because no one can afford the fares! It would be much more practical to have smaller buses that cost less to run, reduce the fares and have a routes that serve all the villages on the island.
