A shed ablaze in the grounds of a Sandown hotel has prompted a response from fire crews this afternoon (Monday).
Firefighters from Shanklin and Sandown were called to the grounds of The Parkbury Hotel on Broadway at around 13:45 after they received reports of smoke issuing from between the hotel and the nearby Bay CE Primary School.
Island Echo understands that the fire started within the grounds of the derelict hotel before quickly spreading to a fence adjacent to the school.
Smoke was seen issuing from a shed at the rear of the property creating a blanket cloud over the surrounding area.
Firefighters equipped in Breathing Apparatus have used Hose Reel Jets to extinguish the blaze with Positive Pressure Ventilation also used to the rid the property from smoke.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are questioning a group of individuals within the grounds of the hotel.
The situation has been brought under control.
UPDATE @ 14:50 – Both fire appliances and the officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have now left the scene.
