Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club travelled to Southampton for the final regatta of the season last weekend.
The club had 10 crews entered for the Itchen Junior Regatta, securing 5 wins.
The club’s Novice J14 double of Sam Meadowcroft and James Travers steered a great course to secure victory in their race by the narrowest of margins, whilst the club’s other Boy’s J14 double of Josh Batchelor and Digby Ridgewell, competing in the competitor section, won after a re-row.
This was an excellent achievement as Josh had only just finished the J13 sculls final, for which he also took the victory.
The girl’s J16 coastal double of Evie Crew and Evie Selway enjoyed a convincing win by two lengths over Lymington and the club’s fifth win of the regatta came courtesy of the girl’s J14 coastal quad.
The crew of Amelia Chambers, Martha Eggleton, Olivia Mumberson, Poppy Lawrence and Esme Walters (Cox), got off to a good start and settled well into the race, finishing two lengths ahead of Lymington.
There was also success for Newport’s junior rowers at the Itchen Imperial Junior Regatta in Southampton on Saturday.
Boris Hare teamed up with Isaac Gibson (from Ryde) to row in the J16 double sculls. They qualified comfortably for the final and carried that form through with a convincing win in the final.
Mariana Hare and Fiona Brookes in the J13 double were competing in their first race. They won their heat by the narrowest of margins, and were again challenged closely in the final. They kept their composure, and won by half a length.
Boris Hare also competed in the J16 single sculls, and reached that final.
