A significant sewage mains burst in East Cowes has left parts of Old Road and Millfield Road flooded with wastewater overnight, with the force of the incident lifting sections of the road surface.
It was during the early hours of this morning (Tuesday) that a river of sewage began to flow down Old Road from a burst at the top of Millfield Avenue.
Gardens have been inundated with sewage as a result.
Utility crews from Southern Water are now on scene, with work getting underway to repair the burst sewer.
Access to Holy Cross Primary School is limited.
Councillor Karl Love has said:
“Words can express how I feel for the residents who are affected at this time with gardens and properties full of sewage in Old Road and no highway access in Millfield or to the school.

Good old Southern Water, massive increase in bills, same old problems.
Pathetic response, Southern Water are changing all the old pipes can hardly be expected to know which one is going to burst. ,
So we can forget the decades of neglect and huge payments to creditors and shareholders. Keep drinking the Kool-aid.
They have been pumping raw sewage into our sea for decades and were fined millions some years ago yet continued to pollute
More cowboy operatives who don’t know what they are doing.
The island is like the wild west what with Island Roads
