A special service of thanksgiving for the life of Queen Elizabeth II will take place in Newport this coming Sunday.
It has been confirmed that the service will be held at Newport Minister, in the heart of the county town of the Isle of Wight, at 18:00 on Sunday 18th September – the eve of Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral.
It will be led by the acting Archdeacon of the Isle of Wight, the Rev Allie Kerr.
Dignitaries from across the Isle of Wight will attend, give thanks for her life and faith, pray for the Royal Family and nation, and sing the new version of the National Anthem. The King’s representative Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Mrs Susie Sheldon, will attend.
The service will also feature the choirs of the parish of Newport and Carisbrooke and the Isle of Wight Cantata Choir.
Island residents are warmly invited to attend though capacity is limited. The service will, however, be live streamed to screens in St Thomas’ Square. Those unable to attend will also be able to follow the live-streaming of the service on Newport Minster’s YouTube channel.
