UPDATED: SEARCH AT WHITECLIFF BAY FOR MISSING KAYAKERS

2 lifeboats and 2 Coastguard Rescue Teams are conducting a search of Whitecliff Bay in Bembridge this afternoon (Thursday).

A pair of kayakers are thought to be missing at sea, prompting a large scale search to be launched.

Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat and Inshore Lifeboat are both at sea in the area of Whitecliff Bay and Sandown Bay, with Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team on land either side of Culver Down.

UPDATE @ 12:45 – Both kayakers – a male and a female – have been located safe and well by HM Coastguard.

The search has been called off and search assets are being stood down.

If you spot someone in trouble at sea, or beieve someone to be in difficulty, the. call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
