Ryde Beach Lifeguards Schools Sea Safe programme will be returning this June, thanks to the support of Southern Water.
The programme is free to schools and forms part of their pre-season drowning prevention education. This aims to give local children an understanding of the beach lifeguards in Ryde and Sandown, flags, dangers at the beach, cold water shock and how to get help.

Article continues below this advertisement “As we are surrounded by water on the Isle of Wight, with just two lifeguarded beaches on the Island I feel our pre-season education is so important. Where the program is immersive, with children being taken into the sea, we find it is much more effective than our traditional school talks”
Schools in Ryde, Sandown, Ventnor and East Cowes have been contacted to take part in the programme, with the aim of getting 1,000 children through the program, in the hope it will help to prevent accidental drownings locally.
